There are some things women do not always say out loud, especially when we know how lucky we are to have people we love around the table. We love our families, and we are grateful for the children, grandchildren, partners, parents, pets, noise, laundry, grocery lists, and all the ordinary pieces that make a house feel like home sweet home.

But if you and I were sitting across from each other on the back patio this November with a cup of coffee, I think you might admit that you are tired of working this hard and still having to shuffle the money around. You may still have a pay cheque, a commute, a decent job, and responsibilities coming at you from every direction, yet groceries, gas, insurance, family expenses, and holiday spending keep taking bigger bites out of it.

Somewhere along the way, you may have caught yourself doing the same mental arithmetic you and I did years ago. Adding up the cart before we reach the till, putting something back, gasping inside as "how little groceries" are in the bag vs what I just tapped my debit card for. The shuffling of money from one bill to another, or wondering how Thanksgiving groceries and Christmas gifts are supposed to come out of the same cheque.

That can be a hard thing to still be experiencing because we were raised to believe that if we worked hard, paid our bills, put in the time and did the responsible grown up things, eventually there would be a little more money than month.

Instead, many Gen X women and women over 50 are earning more on paper and still feeling like they are back in their twenties, stretching one cheque until the next one arrives.

Then Thanksgiving rolls around, the turkey costs more than expected, and the Christmas stocking is already standing at the door with its hand out waiting to be filled.

Somewhere between the Thanksgiving holiday grocery list, the pumpkin pie, and the first Black Friday sale, the same thought starts tapping us on the shoulder.

It would feel good to have some extra money that was not already spoken for in the holiday budgeting.

You may already have a job and a regular pay cheque. You simply want a lil extra, another way to make extra money from home this Thanksgiving so the turkey, the gifts, the everyday bills, and January are not all fighting over the same dollars.

Good grief, most of us have been working since we were teenagers. We have raised people, fed people, helped people, worried about people, stretched pay cheques, worked overtime, taken second jobs, and figured things out "robbing Peter to pay Paul" juggling bills and situations no even knew about.

We are not lazy, ungrateful, or afraid of effort. We are simply tired of doing everything right and still watching the money run out before the month does.

We want another income option that helps with Happy Thanksgiving Holidays, Christmas Season, and the regular bills without taking over the few hours that still belong to us. We have been around the block enough times to know what we want, and thank goodness, we are finally old enough to say what we do not.

We Do Not Need Another Job That Takes Over the Holidays

Search how to make extra money from home, and before long you are handed a list that sounds simple until you read the fine print. Create a journal in Canva, open an Etsy shop, build a sales funnel, write a eBook, become an Amazon affiliate, start a brand, and somehow become interesting enough that strangers stop scrolling and buy something from you.

Any one of those ideas may work for somebody, but when you are starting from scratch, every “simple” idea seems to come with twelve more jobs hiding behind it. You thought you were going to sell a journal, but first you need a logo, master creative editing, create mockups, photos, keywords, emails, videos, payment pages, and a social media account that apparently needs feeding three times a day.

By the time you figure out what a funnel is, you are already wondering whether the extra money is worth losing the few brain cells that are not already stressed out or sucking up what little free time you had left this weekend.

Meanwhile, life doesn't have a pause button so you can build an online business. A child is upset because the favorite blue cup is in the dishwasher, a grandchild is tugging on your sweater, the laundry is buzzing, somebody wants to know what is for supper, and meanwhile your coffee has been reheated so many times you know you should just make a fresh one. 💻☕

(Just typing out that sentence above exhausted me 🤣)

By November, Thanksgiving dinner, family visits, holiday travel plans, school concerts, Christmas to-d0 lists, and everything else we forgot to write down have joined the pile.

That is when many ways to make money online start looking suspiciously like another full-time job or time sink we raise a skeptical eye too. (or complicated enough to just say "no thank you".)

You may have been scrolling and searching because you wanted a little more money coming in, not because you wanted to become the designer, photographer, copywriter, bookkeeper, video editor, customer-service department, and full-time face of a brand before you made your first sale.

We are not trying to become influencers, sit through Zoom calls at eight o’clock at night, or spend every evening wondering what on earth we are supposed to post tomorrow. We are also done pretending that wanting, researching an extra income idea that doesn't drain us mentally means "we are not serious" enough.

We know making extra money takes work. Nobody has to explain that to women our age.

Many of us have tried things before, and some of those lessons cost more than money. We followed the scripts, joined the calls, posted on social media, and when the pay did not match the effort, we were told we were not consistent, positive, visible, or hungry enough.

I know the hurting ache of doing everything you were told and quietly wondering whether the problem must be you. Long before corporate work or network marketing, I actually sold worms as a kid at a road side stand so I could buy a show halter for my pony. I wanted the halter, needed the money, and found a way to earn it.

That is the plain arithmetic many Gen X women grew up with. We don't shy away of what has to be done, but by our fifties, we've experienced enough to know that sometimes we did not fail the business. Sometimes the business failed us.

This time around, we want to know what the work is, what it costs, how the money is made, how much is possible and whether the pay is worth the hours and efforts.

What we are saying is that the work has to make sense.

We need a realistic way to make money from home this Thanksgiving without building twelve different pieces before we can make the first sale. We need something we can learn before work, after supper, on a Saturday morning, or in the one hour nobody else has claimed yet.

It also needs to have economic value after Thanksgiving is over. The point is not to drag ourselves through one busy holiday season, make a few bucks, and start from scratch again in January.

Because earning money for Thanksgiving and Christmas time should not mean missing the very dinners, concerts, and family time we were trying to pay for.

Why I Chose Digital Marketing for Beginners

By the time I stumbled onto digital marketing, I was not looking for another big promise.

I had already worked for salaries and commissions, followed other people’s plans, and watched companies keep the biggest piece of the pie. I was not interested in starting over with another pile of products, another list of people to call, or another person telling me the answer was to work harder.

What caught my attention was that I did not have to invent an entire business before I could begin creating extra income online.

I had plenty enough experience to create my own course, write the lessons, design the worksheets, build a website, make the free guide, write the emails, set up the payment pages, and spend six months arguing with myself over pretty fonts and button colors.

Fact: I also knew myself well enough to admit that I did not want to do all of that before I had earned one thin dime.

That may not sound ambitious, but it was the truth.

I did not need another project that required weeks or months of unpaid work before anybody could buy anything. I wanted to learn useful online skills while working with training and a product that were already there "done for me".

Digital marketing simply means using the internet to help people find a product, service, or piece of information they are already looking for.

The training showed me how to:

✅ Create content in my own voice instead of reading from somebody else’s script

✅ Auto schedule the pre written emails so I did not have to sit beside my phone all day

None of that meant money appeared by magic, and no, I did not become a computer genius after watching a couple of lessons. I didn't need too.. digital marketing for beginners did not require coding, complicated software, or a polished sales voice.

I needed my phone, my voice, and the gumption to use both.

The hardest part was unlearning the pushy, chasey sales habits I had picked up through network marketing and direct sales. I did not need to hound people, overcome objections, explain everything or keep following up until they gave in.
