Have you ever curled up on the couch with your laptop, ready to work on your make money from home project, only to hear your husband mutter, “Are you still doing that thing?” Or caught that side-eye from your partner while you’re on your second Zoom call or fiddling with another Canva graphic?

February gets us talking about love, 💖 Valentine’s Day, and all the sweet stuff, but money and love have a funny way of ending up in the same conversation too.

Especially for Gen X women over 50 who are creating something from home, creating extra income, or simply wanting something of our own. Maybe February also has us thinking a little harder about our financial goals, what another stream of online income could change for us, and whether this might finally be the year we do something with those business ideas for women that have been rattling around in our heads.

And with Galentine’s Day right there in the middle of it all, February is also a pretty good reminder of how much women supporting women matters when we are trying something new.

I used to wonder how many women in network marketing or online businesses like digital marketing had their husbands as their biggest cheerleaders. Because truthfully? Mine wasn’t.. at first. Whether we are creating income from home through those digital products, affiliate marketing, network marketing, or other online business ideas; having somebody in our corner can make the whole thing feel a little less lonely and a lot more empowered.

Fact is .. my Beloved Beast Bob was a worrier.

This is the story of how he went from skeptic to supporter, and what we learned about love, business, support, and making room for one woman’s crazy ideas (mine) without losing each other in the process. 💘

And if your spouse isn’t there yet, we’ll talk about that too.. with heart, humor, and a few high-heeled kicks of truth.

When Your Partner Doesn’t Understand Your Make Money From Home Ideas

Bob wasn’t always my ride-or-die when it came to my online make money ideas. He would toss out little comments like, “So if this doesn’t pan out... you can always get a real job?” Ouch. I knew he loved me, but that stung a lil.

I never gave up on me, and I didn’t give up on us either.

Looking back, I understand his worry, his concerns better now. If your partner has only ever heard about the hype, recruiting, burnout, struggles, people losing money, or somebody’s cousin who "joined something" and drove the whole family crazy with it, no wonder the words network marketing, affiliate marketing, digital products, or online business can make him raise an eyebrow.

And truth is many of us Gen X women, our partners grew up hearing the same stories we did. My grandparents sold boxes of product out of their garages listening to story cassettes of motivation. Door-to-door selling, my Aunty was the ding dong door knocking queen in her neighborhood handing out those cute mini lipstick samples.

Pyramid schemes whispered about at family dinners. Sometimes family members stopped being invited to visit. Somebody always seemed to know somebody who “got into one of those things.” We came from an era where the phone was bolted to the kitchen wall, and now we’re trying to explain how we can make money from the little computer we carry in our hand.

We’ve come a long way, baby. No wonder some of our guys need a minute. 😂

Sometimes the skepticism is not about believing we can’t do it. Sometimes it is worry wearing a smart-ass grin.

And sometimes those men supporting women they love can start right there, not with instant enthusiasm, but with enough trust and encouragement to give us room to prove ourselves.

What helped Bob was not me trying to sell him on every new idea. It was letting him see what I was doing, why it mattered to me, and what making some extra money from home could eventually mean for both of us.

That became part of our partnership too. He didn’t have to understand every piece of it to understand that it mattered to me. That it was important to me.

And if your partner never becomes the guy waving pom-poms cheering whoo hoo from the sidelines with a bottle of champagne 🥂, that does not mean the relationship is doomed. Sometimes support starts smaller. 😉 That he can get a grasp on "what and why" we're doing, and that we're not disappearing into some mystery thing he cannot make heads or tails of.

Especially in February, when Valentine’s Day has us thinking about love and the people beside us, it is worth remembering that support does not always arrive wrapped in a red bow and a box of chocolates.

That is a pretty good place to begin.

PS... I use “he” and “husband” throughout because that is my own story with Bob. Swap in he, she, husband, wife, partner, guy, gal... whatever fits your life. I beg you, give me this little bit of writing mercy today. 😂

How to Get Partner Support While You Make Money From Home

When the person we love is unsure about our online business, arguing usually gets us nowhere fast. What helped me more was letting Bob see the why behind what I was doing, keeping him in the loop, and showing him where he fit into the bigger picture I had in my vivid imagination.

These little things made a much bigger difference than trying to explain every product, program, or convoluted idea running through my head. A little teamwork can go a long way when one person is trying to turn an idea into online income and the other one is still trying to figure out what the heck she is doing.

1. Share the Financial Goal, Not Just the To-Do List

You know your why. But does he?

If your guy sees your make money from home project as one more thing pulling you away from the family, of course he may push back. That’s not always sabotage. Sometimes it’s concern. For a lot of Gen X women over 50, creating income from home is perhaps not about chasing some flashy business dream. There is usually a financial goal sitting underneath it.

So bring him into the dream, not the script, not the products, not your brand colors nor how social media is different than Pinterest. Tell him the nitty-gritty stuff, the emotional aspects, the ooey gooey parts, the deeper financial goals, savings account plans, what you hope it can do for your life together. Let him know what your business goals could actually change at home if you reach them.

Maybe it’s about retiring a little earlier. Padding the savings account. Paying for braces without holding our breath. Having more breathing room in the budget. Maybe it’s simply about being home on Mondays and saying no to the overtime shifts.

Ask what he sees for the next few years too. That is where worry can start turning into support. And sometimes that shared vision is where trust starts replacing the skeptical side-eye.

2. Ask for His Strengths and Make Him Part of the Win

One of the easiest ways I found to bring Bob into what I was doing was to ask for his help with something he was already good at. It took him from being on the outside of my make money idea to sitting beside me, supporting me in his own ways.

My Bob? He is not a marketer. Never has been. But that man has an eagle eye for typos, and he can spot a Canva flop faster than I can hit upload. 😂 So instead of trying to turn him into somebody who cared about every little thing I was doing, I invited him in where he shines. That little bit of teamwork made him part of the small wins too.

And when somebody helps us, thank them. Loudly.

“Thank goodness Bob caught that typo before I sent it out into the world!”

Call me crazy, but I don’t know a human being on earth who doesn’t like to feel genuinely appreciated. When our partner can see that his opinion, strengths, or little bit of help actually matters to us, he starts feeling more like part of the story instead of the guy sitting across the room wondering what on earth we are doing now. A little gratitude, edification and encouragement can go a surprisingly long way.

Pro Tip: Think about his personality too. Back in my network marketing days, we talked a lot about the different personality colors, and honestly, some of that still makes perfect sense.

Greens love facts, figures, data, and yes, they may actually want to look at the compensation plan. Reds like goals, results, and knowing what the next milestone is. Blues want the fun, the people, and the good time, so invite them to the mix-and-mingle, not the spreadsheet meeting. Yellows tend to love helping, encouraging, community, and seeing somebody else win.

In other words, don’t invite your Blue personality guy to spend Saturday night studying Pinterest analytics, or back office data and then wonder why his eyes glaze over. 😉 Meet him where he is, just like we hope he will do for us. That is part of partnership too, knowing what makes the other person tick.

3. Protect Your Relationship While You Make Money From Home

We’ll show up on time for prospects, customers, team calls, Zooms and whatever else is blinking on the calendar. We’ve probably all wolfed down supper in three bites because somebody online was waiting for us. Yet somehow, the person sitting ten feet away can end up getting whatever time is left over.

That one can get under one's skin when we really think about it. Especially in February, when Valentine’s Day has us talking about love, relationships, and the people we say matter most.

If you told him you’d be off your laptop by 8 PM, log off. Period. If you said, “Give me ten minutes and then we’ll watch the movie,” don’t let ten minutes turn into forty-five because one more DM popped up or an email had to be replied to.

His time is not less valuable because he already loves us. Keeping those little promises is part of trust, and trust matters just as much in a partnership as cheering each other on.

And truthfully, this works both ways. We want our partner to respect the time we spend trying to make money from home, create something of our own, and bring in extra income. We need to show that same respect when it is time to shut the iPad, put down the phone, and be present with the person we are doing some of this for in the first place.

Respect flows both ways.

4. Let Him See Your Online Income Progress

When’s the last time you turned the laptop toward him and said, “Look, babe, here’s what I’m working on”? “This is what happened this week.” “Look at what Pinterest did this month.” “See this little jump in traffic?” “This is the Digital Marketing for Beginners program I’ve been talking about, the one where these "done for you" digital products can return 100% profits.”

Not in a pressure-y way. More like, “Here’s my scoreboard.”

Let him see the analytics, the data, the little wins, the bigger picture you’re working toward. Show him the progress toward those financial goals too, even when the numbers are still small. If you’re hoping to bring in extra income this February, pay something down, tuck a little more into savings, or stash some cash before spring rolls around, let him know what that number actually means to you.

Online income can sound a little pie-in-the-sky until the person beside us can actually see where the numbers are coming from and what we are working toward.

Show him the wins, even the small ones. Show him what you do, why you do it and what you expect your efforts to return to you. Let him cheer when the payout hits. And if he rolls his eyes at your 14 open browser tabs? Gently remind him: they’re all for something. 😂

Sometimes what we do begins to paint that bigger picture for the one we love, they can actually see that all those tabs, graphics, Pins, numbers and late-night "ahh-haa" moments and ideas are leading somewhere.

5. Show Him What Digital Marketing Actually Looks Like

Bob used to joke that he couldn’t tell if I was watching kitty-cat videos or actually working. Honestly, some days it was both. 😂

That changed when I started telling him what I was actually doing. “I’m editing a Reel.” “I’m scheduling Pins for my latest blog on how to make extra money online.” “I’m updating an old post for February.” “I’m cross-posting Stories over to TikTok.” “I’m making a new graphic for the Valentine’s board.”

Those are all little pieces of digital marketing and running an online business, even if they just look like me fiddling around on my phone or laptop from across the room.

The more specific we are, the more it makes sense to the person sitting beside us. Don’t assume he knows what all those hours on the laptop are for. Tell him. Let him know which business goals you are working toward and why those little tasks matter.

Pro Tip: Keep a simple whiteboard or checklist somewhere he can see it. Nothing fancy. Just the few things you are working on that day or week. It gives him a window into what you’re doing without you having to explain every blessed detail over supper. 😂 It also gives both of you an easy way to see the progress instead of measuring everything by one big payout at the end.

And honestly, there is something kind of satisfying about crossing those things off where both of you can see the progress.

** PS .. I know a lot of women who make a dang fine income with Digital Marketing for beginners that DO not use Pinterest nor a blog to market, to create leads and make bank. I just happened to love to write and create pretty pins..😉

6. Put the Phone Down: Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day & Being Present

If we want our partner to respect the time we spend trying to make money online, we also have to show that we know when to put the whole thing down.

Date night? Take the dolled-up selfie if you want one, post it later, and then put the phone away. On walks, during dinner, in bed, or sitting together with a glass of wine, be there. Maybe I'm old school but; keep the phone OFF the table so your eyes can be ON the person in front of you.

It drives me batty watching so many conversations and little moments get chopped in half by a ding, a chime, or one more “quick” check. Especially in February, when we are talking about love, Valentine’s Day, and the people who matter most to us, that feels worth mentioning.

And this is not just about husbands. Friendship, sisterhood, and women supporting women deserve the same kind of attention too.

PS... when it comes to phones and girlfriends, this almost sends me over the edge; 😂 We finally get together for a little Galentine’s Day coffee, wine, or girls’ night, and every ding or vibration sends somebody diving for the phone while the rest of us are sitting there mid-sentence. Women supporting each other doesn't have to be some grand gesture. Sometimes it is simply putting the phone down, and giving the woman across from us our full undivided attention.

We grew up with one phone tied to the wall and somehow survived not knowing what everybody was doing every five minutes. We can probably survive one dinner without checking every time our phone wiggles in our pocket. 😉

Turn the phone to silent. Finish the conversation. Enjoy the woman sitting across from you. That kind of friendship and support is everything in life and love.

7. Let Your Online Income Results Do the Talking

If he’s heard all your hopes before and is giving you that major eye-roll energy, don’t waste your breath trying to win him to your side.

Just do.

Knuckle down and Do the Do. Create the content. Schedule the Pins. Finish the blog. Send the email. Post the reel. Learn the thing. Hit the little goal you said you were going to hit.

Those little goals are usually part of something much bigger anyway, whether that is an income goal, a financial goal, or simply proving to yourself that you really can create income from home.

And give yourself those inner high fives along the way. Small wins matter because they build confidence, the pattern, the belief long before the bigger numbers show up.

Back in my network marketing years, Bob started paying more attention when the cheques showed up, the free products started stacking up, I was leading team training calls, hitting goals, and booking flights to company-paid retreats. He could see that this was no longer just one more crazy idea bouncing around in my head.

The same thing is true now.

When the traffic climbs, the leads come in, the payout hits, or we make a little extra money from something we created online, that says more than another hour of explaining ever will. Online income becomes easier for our loved one to wrap their head around when they can actually SEE the progress instead of just hearing about the plan.

Once I stopped trying so hard to convince Bob and just let the joy, the progress, and the commissions arrive... things started shifting. His confidence in what I was doing grew right alongside mine.

Sometimes we need to keep our lips quiet, get to work and let the results speak volumes.

8. Invite Him Into the Wins: Men Supporting Women

Bob listens in on my video calls now, sometimes because I’ve strategically placed them on speaker and sometimes because he’s sitting across the room playing a round of virtual golf while I’m “going live” on Social.

He sees the messages from women I’ve helped. He knows when I’ve had a win, when something flopped, and when I’ve hit that wall where I need to walk away from the laptop before I let forth a stream of curse words. 😂

He is no longer just my husband standing on the outside wondering what the heck I’m doing. He’s my partner in it. He gets enough of it now to understand why it matters to me. That kind of partnership did not happen overnight, but it grew with every little bit of trust, encouragement, and progress along the way.

And I think a lot of our guys really do want to be part of our joy. They just don’t always know where they fit. Sometimes men supporting women looks a whole lot quieter than we expect.

One moment I remember with Bob still lights up my heart...

We were at a family gathering, and Bob was sitting outside on the porch. I had stepped inside to grab a glass of wine, and just as I opened the door to go back out, I heard someone ask him in that slightly snide snitty little tone, “Bob, does she really even make any money doing what she does?”

I froze, my breath stopped with my hand still on the door.

“Heck yes,” Bob said. “She just bought us tickets to Mexico. She buys all the groceries and pays her own bills too. So yeah, I'd say she’s making real money.”

I stood there listening with tears glistening in my eyes.

My Beloved Beast Bob had my back when I wasn’t even in the room. For me, that was one of those moments where love and money suddenly became about something much bigger than a payout. It was pride. Respect. Belief.

He understood.

That meant more to me than any cheerleading speech ever could.

So invite him into the joy. Let him see the wins, the rough days, the progress, and the reason this matters to you. Sometimes support does not arrive with pom-poms and a marching band. Sometimes it grows quietly until one day you realize the person who used to question the whole thing is the one defending you when you are not in the room to hear it.

Sometimes it sounds like, “Heck yes, she is.”

Love, Money & Making Something of Our Own From Home

This blog isn’t about changing your man. It’s about letting him understand a little more of what you’re doing, why it matters to you, and what creating extra income from home could mean for both of you.

Not because we need his or anyone's permission. We're grown ass women and no, we don’t.

But when we share a life with somebody, it sure helps when they understand at least part of the crazy ideas rattling around in our head. 😂

Show him the wins. Ask for his strengths. Keep your promises. Put the phone down when it matters. Let him see the progress. And when he does cheer you on, enjoy the heck out of it.

And if your guy never fully gets it?

You are still allowed to keep going.

That is where girlfriends, sisters, and other women in your circle matter so very much. Sometimes women supporting women looks like one of us saying, “I get why this matters to you,” when nobody else quite does yet.

And maybe that is part of what February, Valentine’s Day, and Galentine’s Day can remind us of too. Love is not only wine and roses, chocolate, and dinner reservations. Sometimes it is respect. Encouragement. Somebody believing in us. Somebody having our back when we leave the room.

And sometimes it is finally deciding we want something of our own that can help with the groceries, the bills, the savings account, the trip to Mexico, or whatever number has been sitting in the back of our mind that we would really like to see sitting in our bank account

Something that gives you a chance to say, “I helped pay for that.”

Or, “I covered the groceries this month.”

Or, “I booked the trip.”

Or maybe just, “This one is on me.”

That is the part I want you to picture.

FAQ: Make Money From Home, Partner Support & Gen X Women

1. What if my husband does not support my make money from home ideas?

Start by helping him understand why it matters to you and what the extra income could mean for both of you. He may not need to understand every detail of digital marketing, online income, or your latest Canva project. Sometimes support starts with trust, encouragement, and letting him see the progress for himself.

2. How can I get my partner more involved in my online business?

Invite him in where his strengths already are. Ask for his opinion, show him the wins, explain the financial goals you are working toward, and let him see some of the behind-the-scenes work. He does not have to become your business partner to feel like he is part of the story.

3. Can I still make money from home if my partner does not understand what I am doing?

Yes. Your partner does not have to fully understand digital marketing, online business, affiliate marketing, or every way you are trying to create income from home. You can keep learning, working toward your goals, and surrounding yourself with women who understand why having something of your own matters to you.

4. Why do women supporting women matter when we are trying to create extra income?

Because sometimes girlfriends, sisters, and other women understand the little wins in a way nobody else does. Whether it is a Galentine’s Day coffee, a quick message, or somebody saying, “I get why this matters to you,” that kind of support can make a big difference when we are trying something new.
