The Truth About Making Money from Home- Without Waving Fistfuls of Cash in Your Feed

We’ve all seen the flashy posts: a fist full of cash, bold claims like “$500 before the holidays!” or “$2K in your first month.. Guaranteed!” And honestly? It gives more ick than inspiration.

As women showing up online to .. we don’t need bait, hype, or pressure. We need possibility, truth, and a little grace for the season we’re in. 🍂

Let’s talk about why I don’t suggest my friends to post and wave wads of cash or make wild income claims on social media (or anywhere else for that matter). And let’s talk about how income transparency can still exist.. without being spammy, salesy, slick or sketchy.

🧃 Why Flashy Money Posts Just Don’t Work Anymore

First off.. Facebook (and other sites) have rules. Posting pictures of money or making guaranteed income claims? That can get your account flagged, posts removed or even shut down. I’ve seen it happen.

But beyond the platform policies, let’s talk about why those posts feel so off.

They're often rooted in desperation. They feel like a lottery ticket. They attract people looking for a quick fix.. not women ready to build lasting income.

That kind of messaging might draw a lot of eyeballs, but it won’t draw the right people into your business. You know the ones: women who are aligned, thoughtful, intentional, and in it for the long game.

🧠 Income Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

Here’s the truth: there is no guaranteed outcome in this business. Not in digital marketing, affiliate marketing, network marketing or any other kind of at home money maker.

You don’t know someone’s skills, consistency, mindset, or support system. Maybe you’re earning $5K, 10K, 15K+/month now.. but how long did it take to get there? What did you learn? What did you heal? What did you sacrifice?

And let’s not sugarcoat it.. earning online is emotional labor, too. 😉

There are days you’ll question your worth, doubt your abilities, and compare yourself to someone who “made 10K in 30 days.”
But numbers don’t tell the full story.
You’re showing up between laundry, caregiving, second guessing, and still choosing to build.

That matters.
Your effort matters.
Your energy matters.
And the income that comes? It’s just the receipt of the value you’re already bringing.

👉🏼 And even if I tell you I made $600 today or $900 yesterday with daily pay digital marketing, that doesn't mean you will. Why?

Because I don’t know your work ethic.

I don’t know how coachable you are.

I don't know what skills you have that are "transferable" to the online space.

I don't know if you've been in any kind of at home/ online money maker business.

I don’t know how much time you’ll carve out each week to learn.

I don’t know if you have a big social circle or you’re just getting started.

Someone might come into this space with credibility, trust, or influence they’ve built for years.. like the pastor’s wife at church, the team mom in a hockey arena, or the go-to girl in a small town.

Others may be starting brand new with no audience and no support. While it is possible.. it’s also might not be instant. Your results are yours to create.

This fall, let’s not promise outcomes. Let’s promise support. Let’s promise honesty. Let’s offer simple ways to make money online with real tools, mentorship, and a dash of pumpkin-spice persistence.✨

👀 Why Some Women Still Want to Know the Numbers

Now.. let’s be real. While there are some women raging up a storm in the comment threads "why are you telling us how much you have earned in your earn income at home gig" bla bla bla..

There are equally women who do want to hear about potential earnings.

Why??

After all, we can look up salaries on Glassdoor for every traditional job. Whether you’re working at McDonald's, waitressing, nursing or teaching, there’s an expected income range. That’s comforting. It’s data. It helps us make decisions.

So when it comes to work from home jobs, side hustles for women, or building streams of income ideas.. why wouldn’t someone want to know what’s possible?

If you're the kind of woman who needs to know what's possible before you leap.. you're not wrong for that. You’re smart. You’re strategic. You want to weigh the ROI before you invest your limited time and energy.

Just know this: anyone promising “fast easy money” or “get-rich-quick” without showing you the work behind the scenes... isn’t giving you the full truth.

Ask for numbers.. but also ask for nuance.

That’s how we honor each other as women building real income in real life.

That doesn’t mean we flash dollar signs.
It means we give context. We share stories.
We say: “This is what I’ve been able to do.. and here’s how I did it.”

That’s leadership. That’s integrity.

😳 Been There, Said That, Felt the Burn

Let me be real with you. (super embarrassing, but here it is)

Back in 2013, when I started in my first network marketing company, I truly believed I’d be earning $10K within 30 days. That’s what I was being told. I believed my girlfriend. “The products sell themselves.” “It’s going to fly off the shelves.” "Message all your friends, even the ones you had in the grade five hot lunch line up."

I was all in.. and I told my friends and family I’d be a kazillionaire by next month.

Except… nothing happened.

I didn’t even make $500 that first month. And the embarrassment? Gutting. Red face, quiet shame, deep disappointment. It wasn’t just that I didn’t earn the money.. I had believed the hype, and I had passed it along.

This is why we don’t make wild claims.
Not because it’s not possible.. but because it’s not promised.
Not because we lack belief.. but because we value trust over tactics.
And because I never want you to feel the way I did: crushed, confused, and questioning your worth.

Like that 4-H Motto: Learn to do by doing.. This is a photo of me and my pony Sham .. It took hours of work and efforts to win those blue ribbons. Just like it's taken me time to make money from home.

😬 The Emotional Backlash of Money Claims

Let’s not forget.. money talk comes with baggage.

For many of us, money stirs up memories of lack, fear, shame, or greed. When someone leads with numbers, some women may feel triggered instead of inspired.

Our job as content creators isn’t to stir up discomfort.
It’s to build trust.
It’s to offer belonging, empowerment, and hope.

Especially during Thanksgiving gratitude season.. when everyone’s already stretched thin, juggling bills, caregiving, and the back-to-school chaos .. it’s more important than ever to lead with heart.

🤝 You Don’t Know Her Desires

When we make assumptions about what someone should want (“$500 before the holidays!”) we’re putting our desires on someone else.

But what if she’s not looking for cash?
What if she’s craving community?
Or confidence?
Or a fresh identity after divorce, burnout, or empty nesting?

When I first started in this space, I wasn’t looking for income. I had a good job. What I wanted was sisterhood. Tribe. I wanted women to talk to. I wanted connection, inspiration, and a reason to feel like myself again as I was struggling with depression.

It wasn’t until my corporate career crumbled that I realized: wait a second... this side gig could be my way forward. And it was. But not because someone promised me big bucks.

Because someone invited me into something that felt like mine.

And if you are someone who wants to build extra income before the holidays, you’re not selfish.
You’re not greedy.
You’re not shallow.

You’re probably thinking about how to celebrate the holidays, afford a more peaceful Christmas, or how to finally say yes to that trip, or how to make sure your parents or kids are cared for.

That kind of quiet strength doesn’t need a flashy post to prove its worth.
You’re already enough. And your reasons? They’re sacred.

🎯 Lead with Connection, Back It With Truth

So what do I recommend? Lead with who you are. Lead with what you love. Lead with your wins, your pivots, your story.

Then share what’s possible.
Not guaranteed.
Not hyped.
Just... real.

Fall is a season of reflection. A season of gratitude. A season to check in with your values and make sure your message still matches your mission.

If you’re building a business around making money online from home, make sure it reflects who you really are.. not just who the algorithm says you should be.

When we create content that honors emotions and ethics.. something powerful happens.
We attract women who aren’t just looking to earn… they’re looking to evolve.
And that’s the kind of movement worth building this season.

✅ Share a story instead of a stat. Invite, don’t convince.
✅ Ask your audience what they’re craving; not just what they’re earning.
✅ Talk about how your offer makes women feel.. not just what it pays.
✅ Create content that connects, not content that chases.
