How to Make Extra Money from Home by Finding Your 'Zone of Genius'

I used to think success was about hustle. Long hours. Mastering everything. Burning both ends of the candle .. Until one day, I realized I was grinding away at tasks that drained me - while neglecting the areas where I was naturally lit up. That shift changed everything.

Because once you find your "Zone of Genius".. Everything Changes .. your tasks, work efforts feel different. It flows. You attract the right people. Your income grows. Conversations are natural.. all the right words are at the tip of your tongue.

And perhaps best of all? You stop resenting the business you started in the first place as the frustration melts away .. and that boulder you felt you were pushing all uphill falls away from your hand with a flick of your finger ..

The Cost of Operating Outside Your Zone

Let’s talk zones. Most of us live in one of these three:

• Zone of Incompetence: You dread it. You’re not good at it. For me? Changing the oil in my car. Crafting sales pages and funnels. Total nope.
• Zone of Competence: You can do it, but others do it better. It gets done, but it’s draining, it's frustrating and the laptop might get tossed out the window.
• Zone of Excellence: You're praised here. You’re better than average. You do it because "it has to get done". But it still doesn’t light your soul on fire.

Then there’s the magic ✨ space:

• Zone of Genius: Time disappears. Energy expands. Your heart is light .. Everything goes right. Angels sing on high. Sunshine and blue skies. You feel fully alive.

Here’s the kicker: most women stay stuck in the competence or excellence zones because of ego and obligation. We say yes because we’re good at it (or people pleasing) or we’re needed, we want to feel needed - but we secretly resent it .. Dare I even mention "Superwomen Syndrome", but that's another topic for another day. 😂

When you spend too long out of your Zone of Genius, burnout creeps in. Your messaging flattens. Your momentum slows. Your spark dims .. And your results? They stall.. or lackluster at best.

How to Find (and Maximize) Your Zone of Genius

Finding your Zone of Genius isn’t mindset work .. not this time 😉, nor reading another book, nor empowering affirmations - it’s the strategy that underpins every successful, sustainable business.

Here’s how to find yours and turn it into your business superpower:

1. Make the Good, Bad, and Ugly List Grab a journal. Divide the page into three columns.
   • Good = Things you enjoy, dive into and would do again.
   • Bad = Things that have you rolling your eyes and feel like a chore.
   • Ugly = Energy drainers, create shoulder tension or things you dread.

1. Notice the "Time-Warp Tasks" What work makes you forget time? When do you feel lit up, energized, and maybe even lose track of the clock? - You could do this all day and never tire, in fact it fuels your energy and passions!!
2. Name Your Natural Gifts Maybe it's storytelling. Teaching. Encouraging. Listening. Analytics. Or strategy. It doesn’t have to be a skill someone gave you a degree for. It could come to like a gift from God; "aux natural" .. It might just be your you-ness.
3. Ask Yourself: "What Do I Bring That Wasn’t There Before?" When you show up in a space—social media, a room, a Zoom, working on a creative - what changes? That’s your unique value. That’s your genius at work.
4. Build Around It, Not Against It Once you’ve found that winning zone, shape your business tasks around it. Automate or delegate the rest. (Yes, even if you think you can’t afford to, there are lots of low cost virtual assistants to choose from around the world). Or barter, "task swap" with another biz bestie.

Here’s What It Looks Like In Real Life

For me, my zone isn’t spreadsheets or sales funnels. It’s connection. Words. Emotion. Helping women feel seen. That’s why I love writing blogs, creating content, recording short videos, and sending messages that lift women up.

That’s also why I stopped beating myself up for not loving tech tutorials. I either learn the bare minimum or ask for help.

And importantly, I look for money makers that are turnkey aka 90% "done for me" so I'm not stuck in a place where I'm pulling my hair out!

And guess what? My business grew. I attracted more aligned people. I had fun again.

Additional Strategies to Thrive in Your Zone

• Batch Content in Your Genius Zone: If writing is your thing, batch write a few posts when the inspiration hits. If video is your jam, do quick clothing changes, earrings, ect and record multiple reels while you’re in the flow.
• Map Your Weekly Tasks: Circle the ones that bring joy and results. Highlight the ones that exhaust you. Adjust accordingly. (identify the "energy suckers" if you can, outsource, or get it done first to tik it off your to-do list)
• Teach Your Team & Friends to Do the Same: Empowering others to lean into their own genius elevates everyone. Celebrate it!!
• Make Time for Reflection: Each quarter, check in: Am I in alignment? What do I want to do more of, and what do I need to let go of?

This Matters Because Time is Our Most Precious Currency

Wasting time doing what you hate or what doesn’t convert is costing you - not just money, but energy, sanity, joy, and momentum🍂 .

But when you operate from your genius zone:

• You move faster with less friction.
• You stop comparing yourself to others.
• You attract the right clients or customers.
• You scale without sacrificing your sanity.

You don’t have to become someone else to build a business.

You just have to build a business that’s more you.

And the best part? The more you show up in your genius, your voice, your value; the more magnetic you become.

You don’t need to chase. You attract.

You don’t need to prove. You just shine.
