Fall Back In Love with "How to Make Extra Money from Home" Even When It Feels Broken

🍂 Fall isn’t just about pumpkin spice and flannel.. it’s also the perfect time to reflect, reassess, and recommit to making smarter moves in your online money maker business. If you’ve been trying to make extra money from home or grow your online side hustle using social media, but feel like it's broken, that it’s taking more than it’s giving.. let’s talk.

I originally spoke on this a few years back in a private women’s business group, and while a lot has changed (hello, reels & ever changing algorithm shifts), the core truths still hold up and stand the test of time (so far 😂 here is the fall of 2025) .

But today? Let's breath .. push that pause button .. give a quick check of what's working in your business, what's not and why not .. Repair what's broken, mend what needs mending. Keep some, toss some and fall in love all over again .. with more story, more strategy, more soul.. for today’s online womanpreneur who wants success results without sacrificing her sanity.

Why I Share This (Yes, I’ve Been There Too 💁‍♀️)

When I was building my first online business, I wasted so much time chasing strategies that didn’t fit my style, my voice, my nuances nor "how I was running my life" at the same time I was trying to run a net work marketing business.

I tried duplicating leaders, blindly following scripts, and posting and praying in the same Facebook groups tens of thousands of others were around the globe. —Who's brilliant idea to prospect other people who were in a business of their own should be beaned on the noggin!

The endless cross-posting the same content hoping something would stick. Seriously that phrase "hoping something would stick to the wall like spaghetti" came from our business trials and tribulations.. It was exhausting. I knew I wanted to make extra money from home, but I also wanted peace. That’s why this matters.

So here’s the cleaned-up truths .. what actually works, what doesn’t, and how YOU can use social media to create more income without more overwhelm nor doing the same old same old things hoping for a different result..

1. Don’t Post Direct from Instagram to Facebook

Facebook ≠ Instagram. Each platform plays by its own rules. I know it saves time. I know the platform has it set up for you, one click, two posts.. but they are two different beasts completely.

• Why it matters: Hashtags that are helpful on IG often diminish visibility on FB. (unless we're doing Reels .. for some reason they are a "Go" for Reels)
• What happens: Hashtags can redirect your audience away from you. If your friend clicks your hashtag, did you know OTHER peoples content populates on their screen? While hashtags can be beneficial, they have a place and time. Not alllll the time 😉
• What to do instead: Create separate posts. Take an extra few minutes. Save your image, paste your words natively in FB without hashtags. (PS, while IG seems to love text on our photos/graphics, FB seems to not like it so much. Weird I know... )

📝 Fall Tip: Add seasonal, real-life captions with your pumpkin spice latte pics or fall adventures. Facebook loves real-time content!

If you're reusing Canva templates across platforms, that’s smart.. but make sure you customize the caption and preview image for each platform so you maximize reach without triggering the “seen it before” fatigue. There are a kazillion ways that Social Media sites can track and identify "same old, same old" .. Fresh is Best!

2. Use FB for the 5 E’s

Entertain. Educate. Empower. Enlighten. Encourage.

Overlap these "buckets" with your own passions.. whether it's side hustles, parenting, health, crafting, or wine🍷at sunset (you know I had to). When your content reflects you, it creates curiosity and connection. (and of course conversations and conversions within your "make money from home" biz.

🧡 Remember: Be human. Your brand isn’t just your product - it’s you.

I remember the first time I posted a photo of my cluttered kitchen table and called it my “CEO HQ.” I was nervous. But the comments? Pure gold. Women saw themselves in my mess and felt seen. That’s real content. That’s connection.

3. Hug Your Post: Warm Up That Algorithm

Facebook rewards engagement. Warm up your Social Media.

• Before posting, go like & comment on a few friends’ posts
• AND then stay active for 7–10 minutes after you post
• Respond to every comment

Social Media is just that: "be social" ..and.. "post media aka content". Facebook and other Social Media sites are a "give to get" platform. Give engagement to get engagement. Back to our kindergarten training .. Give unto others what we want to receive.. or is it do unto others? Either way, you know what I mean 😂.

By "hugging" aka engaging before and after you post .. this sends a signal to FB to "push your post out to your friends", that your post is worth showing. (Spoiler alert: it is!)

I still do this daily. It’s like stretching before a workout.. gets everything flowing. And when you respond with intention? People feel it.

4. The 80/20 Rule is Gold for Making Money from Home

80% connection-based content. 20% direct business/income-related content.

If your wall looks like an running 2 am infomercial or just a daily quote board.. it’s time to mix it up. Use fall-themed stories, biz hacks, behind-the-scenes, or life lessons, mom hacks learned. Keep it real.

👀 Content = Connection = Conversations = Conversions =Conversions

One autumn I did a post about raking leaves and how much it reminded me of clearing mental clutter in business. The engagement shocked me. Turns out, metaphors are magnetic.. and profitable.

5. Create Content That Converts to Make Extra Money from Home

Your content should make your audience say:

• “She gets me.”
• “I needed this today.”
• “I thought I was the only one who thought this .. ”

That’s the stuff that creates trust. From there, trust leads to sales, collaborations, biz partnerships.. or a damn good friend.

I once shared a story about staying up way too late tweaking a Canva graphic because I felt like I had to ‘do it all.’ The messages poured in. That’s when I realized.. there is magic in the mess .. and my mess was actually my message.

6. Why Short Video Still Wins (Even for Beginners)

Short-form video still dominates in 2025. Whether it’s a 5 second clip on repeat, a 30-second FB Reel, IG Reel, or a 3 minute TikTok this format:

• Increases reach
• Boosts engagement
• Offers instant relatability

🧡 Tip: The more YOU show up in your content (voice, face, energy), the more connection you create. But yes, women are absolutely building amazing business with faceless reels!!

Here’s what short videos allow:

• Educate quickly
• Spark curiosity
• Deliver fast calls to action

Some of my most popular videos were shot in one take with no makeup and a coffee in hand. It’s not about perfect—it’s about present.

7. Avoid These Facebook No-No’s

Let’s be honest: we’re using Facebook for free, and it’s still a goldmine if we play by their rules. Here’s what to avoid:

🚫 Facebook doesn’t like:

• Using outside links in posts (use comments or stories instead)
• Copy/pasting/re-sharing old posts (Facebook values fresh original content)
• Spammy words like: Sale, Comment, Share, Discount, Buy, Message Me, ect
• Reposting TikTok's or other video's with watermarks

✅ Instead, do this:

• Speak like a human .. speak things aloud that you know women whisper in their minds.
• Use real photos or fall-themed graphics you took
• Create connection over perfection

The more natural it feels to post, the more natural it feels to engage. If your fingers quiver over the "post" button because it is so raw, real, and vulnerable (like this one I did about my daughter and I) that's when you 100% SHOULD press that button!

8. Groups Have Changed—So Should You

Forget those pushy “buy now” VIP sales groups. What’s IN now?

Value-driven community spaces where you:

• Offer weekly tips
• Start fun convos
• Welcome new members warmly
• Post consistently (yes, daily if you can 😉)
• PS .. Grab you biz besties to help with the Admin duties to "share the work load".

🤎 Pro Tip: New members get notified when you post. If you don’t post regularly, they won’t be reminded to come back .. and your group becomes invisible.

One of my best-performing groups wasn’t about the product.. it was about the people. We bonded over coffee memes, Tip Tuesday Trainings and Monday mindset. The sales came after the sisterhood.

9. Content with Intention Wins

Intentional content >>> scattered posting. You don't want to be willy nilly with it all.. feeling like that leaf blowing in the wind. You will burn yourself out and be frustrated with the results of your efforts.

Your business will grow when your content:

• Feels aligned
• Feels purposeful
• Reflects your life (and seasons)

🍁 Let this fall be a fresh start. Start batching your content on Sundays. Or use “content buckets” that rotate: story, tip, testimonial, lifestyle, biz.

When you give your audience something to feel, they’ll give you their trust in return.

10. You’re Allowed to Pivot and Embrace Digital Marketing

Maybe you started in one biz model (like I did with network marketing) and now realize it’s not aligned anymore. With age, with family dynamics, lifestyle, ect.. That’s okay. You’re allowed to:

• Switch business models
• Add affiliate offers
• Try digital marketing
• Start that blog you’ve been dreaming about
• Diversify your income
• Explore the peace, profits of Pinterest and passive income.

These days, influencer marketing isn’t just for celebs. You are your brand. (More and more companies are seeing the power of "regular women" just like you and I in their business marketing strategy.) And the smartest women I know are weaving multiple streams of income seamlessly under their own umbrella.. products they believe in, services they use, tools they love.

Digital marketing makes it easier than ever to earn with multiple offers.. whether that’s promoting fall journals, done-for-you templates, crafting a eBook of grandma's favorite recipe's .. Why settle for pennies in commission when there are 100% profit options that align with your values, time and lifestyle?

That pivot might just be the beginning of your breakthrough.

Final Thought: Your Time Is Precious—So Let It Work For You

You’ve spent time showing up, posting, engaging… but is it paying off the way it should?
